 
Walt Peters has been inducted into the Independent Superstars “Musicians” Hall of Fame. Frans Maritz (Wildhorse Entertainment) signed the official certificate placing Walt into this prestigious organization located in South Africa. Walt has the distinct honor of being inducted into the IDSS Hall of Fame for his life-time contribution to the Independent Music Industry. Biography of Walt Peters:
The Georgia State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America has named him its Veteran of the Year for 2010. “He is definitely the quintessential model for this prestigious honor,” said the nomination form. Walt Peters spent 20 years in the Army, 1962-1983. He retired as a sergeant first class. As a special operations aviator in Vietnam, he compiled three tours of duty in that country. About one of them, he said, with a smile: “I still can’t talk about it.” but his service to his country came with a huge cost to his own well being, “I was doused with Agent Orange three or four times” during those tours. “We didn’t think nothing about it then,” he said. But, about 1997, his eyes “started going,” and now, after a diagnosis of chemical diabetes and some 30 surgeries, he can only see “silhouettes.” Walt said he also suffers from “acute” post-traumatic stress disorder.
Walt who now lives just outside Hunter Army Airfield, is a constant presence on the post. For six years, he has cheered and counseled thousands of soldiers as they depart for or return from a war zone. “I’m a combat veteran, and I know how they feel,” he said. “I’m often the last person they see before taking off.” What he’s thinking when he sees the off, but not saying out loud: “When you put 350 kids on that plane, it breaks your heart because you know somebody’s likely to be killed or come back maimed.”
CNN proclaimed Walt a Hero: In 2008, the network honored him for his service at Hunter Army Airfield. “Since 2004, he’s greeted an estimated 20,000 soldiers,” the story said.
Walts hobbies are what earned him this Independent Superstars Hall Of Fame Award, he is a talented guitarist who has performed with many country legends, including Marty Robbins and Conway Twitty, Walt now strums with the Ramblin’ Country Band. “We’re just a bunch of old guys” who still get on stage.
Strait talk: In 1973, while he was stationed in Hawaii, Walt was told to put together a country band. The general wanted soldiers to entertain soldiers, he remembered. So Walt did as he was ordered, and while auditioning soldiers, he came across a young Army finance clerk by the name of George Strait. “We built the band around him,” Walt said. Discovering the talent that is now a country-music legend, he added, was “the highlight of my military career.”
Constant reminder: On his right wrist, Walt wears a POW/MIA bracelet. It bears the name of Staff Sgt. Stephen Geist, a Green Beret missing since a plane crash in 1967. “I’m the fortunate one,” Walt said. “I came home.” Walt will look you in the eye even though he is himself blind he will tell you that his work will never be finished, and once you have met Walt Peters and spoken to him you will believe him. He is truly a hero and now in the Independent Superstars Musicians Hall Of Fame, South Africa.
