James Marvell has been inducted into the Independent Superstars “Recording Artists” Hall of Fame. Frans Maritz (Wildhorse Entertainment) signed the official certificate placing James into this prestigious organization located in South Africa. James has the distinct honor of being inducted into the IDSS Hall of Fame for his life-time contribution to the Independent Music Industry as a Recording Artist. Marvell is seen holding his award above confirming his induction into the HALL OF FAME. James Marvell is grateful to be inducted into the prestigious Independent Superstars Hall Of Fame. “This award is just as good or better than when CMA use to write about me in the early 70s. This is truly icing on the cake!” says Marvell.

Biography of James Marvell

mercy1970James Marvell has had hits in almost every field of music. In his teen years he recorded a Florida psychedelic classic with his garage band Surprize titled “I Will Make History”. At age 16 Marvell scored a release on the national label U.S.A. Records out of Chicago thanks to his manager John Centinaro and Carl Bonafede 60s’ manager of The Buckinghams. In the late 60s he recorded with the million selling band Mercy of  “Love Can Make You Happy” fame. See Picture left: Where “Mercy” had a crowd of about 20,000 people at an outside show featuring us and other names like Tommy James and The Shondells, The Cowsills and other 60s rock legends!

CaviliersAround 1970 Mercy band mate Buddy Good and James Marvell left Rock to pursue their first love, Country, forming the anti-drug MGM outlaw duo Country Cavaleers (James and Buddy in picture Right from early 1970s). James has always enjoyed writing gospel. In the mid 90s, he was blessed with a string of Christian Country Gospel Top Tens and number one hits under the name Marvell. James has the distinct honor of having his recording “Only Christian Country” as the Official/Exclusive Theme Song of the International Country Gospel Music Association thanks to the decision of former president Wendy Duvall.

icgma borderIt has been the First and only Theme Song in ICGMA’s 60 year history! In 2011 he re-recorded the Mercy classic making chart history by being one of only three major acts to ever come back with either a Billboard or Cashbox Top 10 the second time around! Bruce Elrod, president of Cashbox Magazine says “Chubby Checker did it with ‘The Twist’, Neil Sedaka with ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do’  and Marvell with ‘Love Can Make You Happy,’ the Jack Sigler original he first recorded with Mercy in the late 60s, this time hitting #4 with his re-make in 2011 at Cashbox.

” James Marvell is still going strong with many current chart records on Colt, Hope Street and AirplayExpress. Just this past Christmas, Marvell was joined by over 100 hit makers from Country, Gospel and Pop on the classic written by Rhonnie Scheuerman  and her co-writer Jim Harmon titled “Embrace The World This Christmas”.
